My Story
I'm Robert Greene, the founder and author behind Unfiltered Wisdom. My journey to understanding trauma, the nervous system, and emotional patterns didn't begin in a classroom—it began in the crucible of real life.
After serving in the United States Navy, I experienced firsthand how trauma doesn't respect rank or uniform. The skills that kept me alive in service became barriers in civilian life. The hypervigilance that saved my life became anxiety in grocery stores. The emotional suppression that maintained operational readiness became numbness in relationships.
Why I Created Unfiltered Wisdom
I created this site because when I needed answers, I found them scattered across academic papers, therapy sessions, military transition programs, and late-night conversations with fellow veterans. I wanted a single place where people could find trauma-informed answers that actually make sense.
Every question here represents something I've either lived through, researched extensively, or discussed with therapists, fellow survivors, and mental health professionals over years of healing work. I wrote the answers I wish I had found earlier—answers that validate the confusing, contradictory experience of having a nervous system shaped by survival.
My Philosophy
- Trauma is neurobiological, not moral. Your responses were adaptive. They kept you alive. Understanding this changes everything.
- Healing isn't weak. It takes far more courage to face your wounds than to pretend they don't exist.
- You're not broken. You're responding normally to abnormal experiences. The nervous system can relearn safety, but it takes time, patience, and often professional support.
- One size does not fit all. What helped me might not help you. EMDR, IFS, somatic therapy, medication—recovery looks different for everyone.
My Work
Important Disclaimer
While I have years of lived experience and have educated myself extensively on trauma, anxiety, and the nervous system, I am not a therapist, counselor, or medical professional. The content on this site is for educational and informational purposes only—not a substitute for professional mental health care, diagnosis, or treatment.
Connect
If you're in crisis, please reach out to emergency services or a crisis line. If you're looking for therapy, I recommend finding a trauma-informed therapist who uses evidence-based approaches like EMDR, IFS, or somatic therapy.
The best way to support Unfiltered Wisdom is to share what resonates with someone who needs it. Every person who finds validation here makes this project worthwhile.
